Post Five: Conventions of a Digital Animation

Task One
Explain the standards and conventions used to produce digital media outcomes.

I've used both standards and conventions in my work. One of the many standards i have used for my digital outcome was the properties editor. The properties editor is used to changed the setting in which blender works for our animations changing these setting can result in the difference of a high grade outcome or a low grade outcome. i also used two different principles of animation which were "Appeal" and "straight ahead and pose to pose"

The "Straight ahead and pose to pose" principle of animation used two different techniques to create movement of a character. The pose to pose technique was used to produce a walk cycle from a image provided from our teacher. The technique of pose to pose uses key frames to track where each pose is and fills in the other key frames in so it is a smooth animation. to make a key frame the blender option has to be set into "Pose mode" and not edit or object mode.

The "appeal" principle of animation is used to make the character have a individual feel to it making it unique to itself this is made with it's appearance (how it looks in blender) and it's custom back story that was made for it. my character for instance looks like a officer of the law which instantly give you a feel that he has authority over others in certain situations.

Another thing that was used in blender was the Render Settings this includes the resolution frame range aspect ratio and frame rate i kept the resolution at X:1920 and Y: 1080 the frame range i used was Start frame: 0 End frame: 230 with 24 frames per second The type of image i used was a .PNG as it is a higher quality with loss less than it is with a .JPEG. After we collected out images from blender after rendering them we imported them into adobe after effects which then compressed them all into a small video clip which we submitted.

Task Two
Discuss the positive and negative implications of adhering to digital media outcome and conventions when developing digital media outcomes.
A positive impact on my development was the pose to pose key frames for the walk cycle which was really easy to follow as it was image based and we just had to match up the part of our mesh to where the drawing was. it also kept the volume of the mesh normal and did not affect it it the final render. pose to pose key frames had a 15 frame space to show that the frames were slow and not fast like a running pose to pose which has a interval of 6 frames between each image to show that it is moving faster which was compressed into a video at 24 frames per second. A negative outcome that i found was doing a animation freehand without a image to follow it made everything a lot harder to complete as you had to make the animation and make sure you didn't make the frames to spread apart or to close which could affect the the final outcome making it inconsistent e.g. fast pace to slow motion.

Task Three
Evaluate how the application of standards and conventions affect the quality of digital media outcomes.
The application of standards and conventions affected the quality of my digital media outcome as without the conventions of the twelve principles of animation the quality of my digital media outcome would have been greatly decreased as the "appeal" convention was a massive part of the digital media outcome as it is what made the character look like a character and not a mannequin The "Straight ahead and pose to pose" convention also paid a big part the the quality of my digital media outcome as it is what created the animation of my character. the animation of the character one of the most important parts of this digital media outcome as it involved a lot of different techniques to create a animation for you''re character.
Task Four: Excellence

Discuss the relationship between standards and conventions, in relation to the requirements of digital media outcomes.

The standards and conventions go together like butter on toast they both work together on improving the the final outcome of the digital media outcome the conventions help with the overall look of the model created while the standards help improve the look of the model in the properties editor. They both work hand in hard to improves the same part of the animation in this case the "appeal"  Both standards and conventions are a big part in the digital media outcome as they both help to improve the final outcome.
